A look at the motives for sports participation in school sports
Main Article Content
Abstract
The work responds to the research project "Influence of psychological and psychosocial aspects in school sports" belonging to the INDER National Program "Sport and Human Development". The objective is to analyze the theoretical approaches carried out in the study of the reasons for sports participation in children and adolescents according to articles found in the Scopus, Scielo, Redalyc, Pubmed, Dialnet, SJR and Google Scholar databases, considering the essential role of Motivation as a guarantor of initiation, participation and permanence in sport. The methodology used was qualitative. The systematization of the selected studies expresses as a characteristic the non-existence of a homogeneity in the use of this category, as they are treated as reasons for maintenance in sports practice, reasons for adherence to it, achievement goals to be achieved by the subject or as “motivational factors”. These investigations express as regularity in their results the reasons for sports participation, health, image, direct references to taste for sport, friendship, fun, skill development and socialization. It is concluded about the relevance of the foundations of the Historical Cultural Approach in the study of the subject.
