Characterization of physical development in university students
Main Article Content
Abstract
Since 2014, the Ministry of Higher Education has abolished the taking of additional requirement exams for most university courses in Cuba. Within which the Physical Culture career was one of them. This led to limitations in terms of knowledge about the physical fitness that young people have to enter the career. Hence, the objective of the research was to determine the characteristics of the physical development of the students of the "Manuel Fajardo" University of Physical Culture and Sports Sciences. A descriptive, cross-sectional explanatory study was carried out to assess their physical condition. The results showed a predominance of endomorphy in the case of the somatotype and therefore a high % of body fat with emphasis on the female sex, with a risk of suffering from chronic non-communicable diseases. Limitations in the functional development of the studied sample were evidenced in terms of muscle power of the lower limbs and maximum oxygen consumption (Vo2Max) where the average values for both sexes prevailed.
