Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the intake and energy expenditure of youth runners in the middle distance of the Djibouti national team and compare them with international recommendations. A quasi-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative study was carried out. Energy and macronutrient intake were determined, as well as energy expenditure during the week. The pretest results showed that the majority of the runners surveyed did not carry out an adequate energy intake, in a periodized manner. The percentage of adequacy between intake and total energy expenditure was not convenient, due to a deficit in energy intake in both study groups. An intervention is required to correct the errors detected in the nutrition of the athletes studied.
