Mood of an adult men’s futsal team during the 2023 Paraná Open Games
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the mood state of a male futsal team during the 2023 Paraná Open Games, Brazil. Twelve futsal athletes from the delegation representing the municipality of Maringá, Paraná, Brazil, participated in the study. Initially, the athletes completed an anamnesis form and, over the course of three days of competition, responded to the BRUMS (Brunel Mood Scale) questionnaire before (pre) and immediately after (post) each of the three matches, totaling 72 responses. To compare the mood indicators at pre- and post-match moments, repeated measures ANOVA followed by Bonferroni post-hoc testing was used. The results showed that the indicators of depression (Pre = 0.10 vs. Post = 0.59), anger (Pre = 0.23 vs. Post = 1.08), fatigue (Pre = 0.49 vs. Post = 1.78), and confusion (Pre = 0.05 vs. Post = 0.19) were significantly higher post-match (p < 0.05), while vigor (Pre = 2.50 vs. Post = 1.42) was significantly higher pre-match (p < 0.05). Considering that the team was defeated in matches 1 and 2 and won only match 3—thus being eliminated from the competition—match-by-match analysis revealed that post-match tension increased (p < 0.05) from match 1 to match 2 (0.46 vs. 0.85), while depression (0.90 vs. 0.22) and anger (1.48 vs. 0.65) decreased (p < 0.05) from match 2 to match 3, respectively.Based on the data, it is concluded that mood state indicators fluctuate throughout a competition with short recovery periods between matches, and that match outcomes appear to influence these changes.
