Physical recreation to overcome negative social stereotypes of older adults
Main Article Content
Abstract
In contemporary Cuban society, negative social stereotypes predominate in older adults. To modify this, the regular practice of recreational physical exercises and social activities in the communities are key. However, few and scattered studies point to this purpose. The objective was to assess the importance of a program of recreational physical activities for the reduction of negative social stereotypes about the elderly. A field study is carried out, of a descriptive nature, from the participatory action methodology. The result was that the majority of older adults do not perform physical activities in their free time. With the program of recreational physical activities, it was possible to counteract the negative stereotypes of the aging of older adults.Specialists consider the possibilities of replicating the proposal in other contexts of the territory.
