New Health and Physical Education Curriculum for Middle and High School in Japan

Abstract

In Japan, classes are taught uniformly throughout the country based on the "Courses of Study" provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). The latest curricula were revised in 2017 for middle schools and in 2019 for high schools. The purpose of this paper is to identify the modifiable aspects of the new curriculum introduced for health and physical education in Japanese middle and high schools from three perspectives.
